Lucky Dogs
(2004)
This film contains brief nudity and is intended for a mature (albeit not too mature) audience.
There's an old show-biz adage that advises, "Never work with children or animals." Well, I've tried both now with no regrets. The first occasion was on "Lucky Dogs," which was co-created with David Morgan and his wonderful Bull-Terrier named, Bitte.
Unfortunately, the story does not hold up well. With the ascension of the important issues of photo privacy and women’s rights to security, this film feels quite antiquated and tone-deaf.
Also, "Lucky Dogs" was a learning experience for me on the logistics of film production. I had never tackled a project so large (shot on super-16) on such a micro-budget, and occasionally, I lost sight of crafting the best version of the story, in favor of just getting the film "in the can."
So, please forgive its many flaws and its juvenile plot, and just enjoy the awesome dog!
"Lucky Dogs" was selected for the New Orleans Film Festival, which was sadly canceled that year, due to Hurricane Katrina.
